How to Search Jefferson County Court Records
The main portal is the Colorado Judicial Branch docket search, prefiltered to Jefferson County at coloradojudicial.gov/dockets. It covers both District Court and County Court matters at the Jefferson Combined Court. The page shows hearing dates, case numbers, party names, hearing types, and courtrooms. It does not show pleadings, exhibits, or scanned orders.
Before you run a search, pull together what you know. A party last name works well. A case number works better. The form needs at least one filter in addition to a date range, so a blank search returns nothing useful.

The image above shows the live docket search filtered to Jefferson County on coloradojudicial.gov/dockets. Each result row links to the case number and hearing data the public can view.
- Open the docket search and confirm the County dropdown shows Jefferson County.
- Pick the courthouse: Jefferson Combined Court.
- Set the court type: District, County, or Both.
- Set a date range. Pick one week, one month, three months, six months, today, or a specific date.

- If you have a case number, split it into the year, class code, and sequence number.
- Run the search and review the result columns.
- Use Export Results or Printable Version to save a copy.
- For full documents, send a Record/Document Request to the Clerk of Court.

Jefferson County Case Number Format
A Colorado case number combines three pieces: the four-digit year, a one or two letter class code, and a sequence number. Jefferson County result lists show examples like 2025C656, 2026DR97, 2025CR1977, 2026C34061, and 2024CR2922. The class code tells you what kind of case the file is.
If a paper points to "2026T34061" without context, that is a 2026 traffic case from County Court. "2025CR1977" is a 2025 felony filing. The class codes that show on the docket dropdown are: C, CR, CV, CW, DR, JD, JV, M, PR, R, S, and T. Knowing the class up front saves time when you ask the Clerk for a copy.

Docket Search vs Record Request
Two different things often get confused. A docket search is a free public list of upcoming and recent hearings. A record request is a written ask to the Clerk for actual documents. The table lays out how they differ.
| Item | Docket Search | Record Request |
|---|---|---|
| What it shows | Hearing schedule, case number, parties, courtroom | Pleadings, orders, exhibits, full file |
| Where | Online at coloradojudicial.gov/dockets | Online form or in person at Clerk of Court |
| Cost | Free | $0.25 per page; $20 certified copies; $5 name search |
| Login | None | Identifying info required; ID for restricted files |
| Turnaround | Instant | Up to 3 business days |

The Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act at C.R.S. § 24-72-301 et seq. covers sheriff and law-enforcement records. Court records also follow Chief Justice directives that set rules for sealing, suppression, and juvenile confidentiality.

Records That Are Sealed or Confidential
Some Jefferson County court files are not open to the public. Sealing under C.R.S. § 24-72-706 lets adults seal eligible criminal records after a waiting period. DUI, DWAI, and DUID convictions are excluded from sealing under the statute. Juvenile cases follow the Children's Code at Title 19, with separate rules for who may see records and what redactions apply. Suppressed cases are blocked at the Clerk's office until a judge lifts the suppression.
To ask a court to view a sealed file, file a motion in the underlying case. The Clerk does not unseal records on request. For records held by the Sheriff's Office, the Records Unit at 303-271-5542 or records@jeffco.us handles redaction inside the NextRequest process.
