How to Search Jefferson County Court Records
The main starting point is the Colorado Judicial Branch docket search. The page is filtered by county. Jefferson County is county code 30 on the form. The search shows hearing schedule rows for District Court and County Court cases held at the Jefferson Combined Court. It does not show full pleadings, exhibits, or scanned documents. For those, send a request to the Clerk of Court through the official record/document request form. The Jefferson County Court site also gives email and phone contacts for each case type.
Before you start, gather what you know: party names, a guess at the year a case was filed, a case number if you have one, or an attorney bar number. A docket search needs at least one filter besides the date range, so a blank name with no date will not work. Lead with the docket portal at coloradojudicial.gov/dockets to confirm a case exists and to see the case number format used in Jefferson County.
The Colorado Judicial Branch landing page for the Jefferson Combined Court is the local hub. A look at the official Jefferson County trial-court page shows the docket link, court resource center, problem-solving courts, and free legal clinic schedule. The image below comes from that page.

The landing page is dense for a court site. It pulls together docket search, virtual courtroom links, text reminders, free legal clinics, interpreter contacts, problem-solving courts, and chief judge orders in one place. Use it as the top of every Jefferson County Court records workflow.
- Open the docket portal at coloradojudicial.gov/dockets. Confirm the County dropdown shows Jefferson County.
- Pick the courthouse. Select Jefferson Combined Court if the courthouse field appears.
- Pick a court type: Both, County, or District. Use Both if unsure.
- Set a date range. The form supports one week, one month, three months, six months, today, or a specific date.
- Add one more filter. Date alone is not enough. Use a last name, case class, attorney bar number, or division.
- If you have a case number, split it into year, class, and sequence. Jefferson County examples include 2025CR1977, 2026DR97, and 2026T34061.
- Run the search. Review the result list for date, time, hearing type, courtroom, and case number.
- Use Export Results or Printable Version to keep a working copy.
- For documents or a full register of actions, file the Record/Document Request Form, email JeffcoRecordRequest@judicial.state.co.us, or call 720-772-2570. Plan on three business days.

Types of Court Records Available in Jefferson County

The Colorado Judicial Branch docket dropdown uses these single-letter codes: C, CR, CV, CW, DR, JD, JV, M, PR, R, S, and T. A case number combines the four-digit year, the class code, and a sequence number. So 2025CR1977 is a 2025 felony filing, and 2026DR97 is a 2026 domestic relations matter.

What Jefferson County Court Records Show
A full court record is the case file held by the Clerk of Court. It is larger than the docket entry the public can see online. A docket row gives schedule data. A case file gives the actual documents filed by the parties, the orders signed by the judge, and the final disposition. The table below lays out the standard fields that appear in a Jefferson County case record.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Case Number | Year, class code (CR, M, DR, PR, T, etc.), and sequence - e.g., 2026DR97 for a 2026 domestic relations case. |
| Filing Date | Date the Clerk stamped the first pleading. Drop-box filings can be back-dated to the prior business day. |
| Parties | Plaintiff or People of the State of Colorado vs. defendant or respondent. Names may be redacted for minors. |
| Charges or Cause | Statute cited (CRS section), elements, and counts. Civil cases list the cause of action. |
| Disposition | Final outcome: guilty, not guilty, deferred judgment, dismissed, default judgment, settlement. |
| Sentence or Judgment | Fine, jail, probation, restitution, custody arrangement, dollar judgment, protection order terms. |
Public Access Laws for Jefferson County Court Records
Colorado opens most court files to the public by default. Two state laws set the floor. The Colorado Open Records Act covers most public records held by state and county offices. The Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act covers law-enforcement records, including sheriff arrest and booking records. Court records also follow Chief Justice directives and Colorado Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure for sealing, suppression, and juvenile confidentiality.
The Colorado Judicial Branch overview page lays out the structure that puts every court - Supreme, Appeals, District, County, and Water - under one judicial branch.

The First Judicial District Attorney's site at firstda.co serves Jefferson and Gilpin Counties. DA filings end up in the Clerk of Court file, but the DA's own case data is its own record set. The DA office is at 500 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden.
Key Statutes:
C.R.S. § 24-72-201 et seq. - Colorado Open Records Act. Most public records held by state and county offices are open, with named exceptions.
C.R.S. § 24-72-301 et seq. - Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act. Sets access rules for sheriff and law-enforcement records.
C.R.S. § 24-72-706 - Sealing of criminal records. Lays out waiting periods and excluded offenses such as DUI.
Note: A Clerk of Court may still restrict access to suppressed cases, juvenile files, or any document marked confidential under the rules.
Records That Are Restricted or Confidential
Not every court file is open. The record/document request form warns that suppressed cases, juvenile records, probate matters, and documents with confidential or protected information may require a U.S. government-issued photo ID. Some files are sealed by court order and stay sealed unless a judge orders otherwise. Sealing rules for adult convictions live at C.R.S. ยง 24-72-706 and have waiting periods that depend on the offense class. DUI, DWAI, and DUID convictions are not eligible for sealing.
To ask a court to view a sealed file, you file a motion in the underlying case. The Clerk does not unseal records on request. Juvenile cases under Title 19 follow a separate confidentiality scheme. The Children's Code spells out who may see those records and what redactions apply. For sheriff-side records, the Sheriff's Records Unit handles redactions inside the standard request process at 303-271-5542 or records@jeffco.us.

Each program uses close judge supervision, treatment, drug or alcohol testing, sanctions, incentives, and regular review hearings. Recovery Court works with defendants whose criminal cases are tied to substance use. Veterans Treatment Court works with eligible justice-involved veterans and coordinates with the VA. Review and check-in hearings show up on the public docket. The Colorado Judicial Branch problem-solving courts page lists the four programs and gives the local contacts for handbooks and eligibility screening. Marriage, Divorce, and Probate Records
Two offices split this work. The Clerk & Recorder issues marriage and civil union licenses and keeps the recorded copies. The Clerk of Court keeps divorce, custody, and probate case files. Marriage license fee is $30 under the Clerk & Recorder's posted schedule. The license is valid for 35 days and must be returned within 63 days after the ceremony to avoid late fees. The image below comes from the Marriage Licenses page.

For full guides, see marriage and divorce records and probate records. The land records search portal also indexes marriage records.

The land records search is the Clerk's public index for recorded documents, including marriage records back through the modern index.

How to Read Jefferson County Court Records
Docket entries use short labels. A few are worth knowing on first read. "Arraignment" is the first appearance in a criminal case where the defendant is told the charges and asked to plead. "Pretrial Conference" is a status hearing before trial. "Sentencing Hearing" is what it sounds like. "Return Date on Summons" is a civil first appearance. "Appearance on Arrest Warrant" is the in-court answer to a warrant.
A charge is not a conviction. Many cases end without a guilty finding. A record can show a not guilty plea, a dismissal, a deferred judgment, or a guilty finding. Reading only the charge skips the disposition. Always pull the disposition line before drawing any conclusion about a case. The disposition is the court's final word on what the case actually became.
Accuracy and Record Limitations
The docket portal updates fast, but it is not the case file. Some new filings sit in the Clerk's intake queue for hours or days before they appear online. Sealed and suppressed entries do not appear at all. A drop-box filing can be date-stamped for the prior business day if it arrives before the doors open, so a docket date may not match the calendar date a party filed.
The Jefferson County government homepage at jeffco.us hosts the Clerk & Recorder, sheriff, and county-side records.

Note: Always confirm a docket result with the Clerk of Court at 720-772-2570 or JeffcoRecordRequest@judicial.state.co.us before acting on it.
